Makaton For… Early Years Settings

I am delighted and proud to be delivering the new Makaton For…Early Years Settings workshop. It is part of a whole package of Makaton For… workshops which include General Wellbeing, Emergency Services, Dentistry, Learning Disability Teams, Nursing and Urgent & Emergency Care. Each workshop is designed specifically for those supporting in frontline situations where communication is a priority.

Through the Makaton For… Early Years Settings workshops I have delivered training to people working with babies, toddlers and pre-school children in Nurseries, Pre-schools, Playgroups and Childminding groups. In the near future, I am looking forward to teaching Outreach workers, Speech and Language professionals and a national charity supporting Children’s centres.

During the workshops, the positive impact on those attending is already evident. Participants first learn the theory and principles of using Makaton, then both general and bespoke vocabulary, signs and symbols, tailored to their specific needs within Early Years settings. This foundational knowledge equips them to communicate more effectively in their roles.

Following the vocabulary sessions, attendees engage in practical exercises designed to embed their learning. These activities allow participants to apply what they have learnt in real-world scenarios, reinforcing their understanding and boosting their confidence in using Makaton as part of their daily communication.

I am committed to sharing my expertise in Early Years education and have developed a range of resources that may provide valuable insights for others to implement in their own settings.

My primary objective is to make certain that all participants attending the workshop are able to acquire not only an understanding of Makaton but also build the confidence required to effectively implement and use Makaton in practical situations as soon as the session concludes.

Most importantly, I strive to make these workshops relaxed and fun, so that people cannot wait to start using Makaton.
